It is official! I will be presenting at the 2016 Phoenix Comicon on Friday, June 3rd at 10:30am.
This presentation is based on work that I did in my World Literature classroom when I taught high school prior to starting my doctoral studies. Specifically, this presentation focuses on how comic books and graphic novels can be used as both primary and secondary sources when teaching World War II history and literature.
Several of my former students will be joining me as part of the panel for this presentation--Juan Guerrero, Aaron Garcia, Lexxie Grice, and Brittany Leyba will all be in attendance to talk about their experiences during the unit of study. Unfortunately, Matthew Holland, another former student, was originally going to speak as part of the panel, but is now unable to attend. You will be missed Matt! Also, my adviser and mentor, Dr. Frank Serafini, will be joining us to talk about the role Visual Literacy plays in this sort of instruction.
I hope to see you all there! We are super excited about the project.
