Beyond the "Fakebook" Profile:
Engaged and Purposeful Literacy Instruction Using Alternative Media

How do we best prepare our students for a world in which the meaning of “literacy” and the practices associated with “being literate” are changing every day? The purpose of this panel discussion is to invite teachers and literacy professionals to explore the ways that teaching using alternative media forms such as graphic novels, digital games, and social media can help address common standards, promote “21st-Century Literacies,” and foster engaged and purposeful engagement for all students.
